To install GURPS Character Assistant 4.0.423 in WINE

Wine version used: 2.3 32bit prefix

You can do these steps either before or after you install GCA. You will need to run Winetricks and install the following:

comctl32ocx 
vb6run
riched20

You will also want to have a real version of oleaut32.dll from windows XP. Copy this to WINE's windows\system32 directory (usually ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32). Then open a terminal, type "wineconsole" and go to C:\windows\system32. Execute "regsvr32 oleaut32.dll". It should confirm it was successful.

After that is finished run winecfg. Go to Libraries. You will need to make sure that both riched20.dll and oleaut32.dll are set to "native, builtin"

You will also want to install CUPS-PDF for whatever linux distro you are using. This is for Print Preview and Quick View.

You will get an little error message upon exiting the program. Nothing you can do about it. Codeweaver's Crossover does not have this error message.

Because of setting oleaut32.dll to native, Microsoft Net Framework will not install properly for you and if you have Net Framework installed before you install GURPS Character Assistant, it will not work properly for you. You will either need to live without Microsoft Net Frameworks or run something like PlayOnLinux to let you be able to put programs into their own bottles. I have Crossover Linux and I have it in its own bottle.
